All four Canadian riders made it to the finals. Tiffany had 8 faults, but then Beezie Madden's horse refused twice so they were elliminated. Tiffany squeeked by.
Go Canada!!!

Did anyone else notice nancy referred to Victor as "Simon" during Tiffany Foster's round? Perhaps she is getting Victor mixed up with Beezie's number 2 horse she rode in the Atco QEII cup at spruce? Lol
Why isn't Beth Underhill commentating? I really enjoyed her commentary in Beijing! Mac does great commentary at the royal as well!

I think our team has done very well so far.
Many other riders have had faults. This is Tiffany's first Olympics and she is quite young, especially in experience at the international level. Hopefully she's got her jitters out in this round, and knows where she can improve for the next round!
Same with Jill- I would expect a little better from her, but manure happens. Hopefully she'll also have a better ride next round.
I don't think Eric pulled anything out of his butt- I think he and Derly are just that good. I did hear a few rubs during their round, but it seemed to me Eric was riding fairly conservative (fair enough- he only needs to go clear to get through, no point in pushing more than needed). Derly is very young and inexperienced, so I think she is handling the event very well- with more experience she'll be a superstar.
I'm watching the event replay now... waiting to watch Ian go.
I feel bad for the Swedish rider on the grey- her poor horse was just frazzled from the get go. Wonder what was up- pretty sure the announcer said they were at the Sidney Olympics (or maybe it was just the rider and this is a new horse??), which you would not expect a horse with international experience to be so frazzled toward the environment, but who knows- just not a good day for that team. Glad neither were hurt though!
GB, GER, and NEDs are all riding very well- would expect to see any of them on the podium.

4 faults for Ian. Very good ride, both Ian and Star Power looked relaxed and had a quiet ride, but one measly rail! Oh well.

I thought there were a lot of clear rounds and that the course was big, but not very technical. Does anyone know what happens to riders like Beezie Madden who got eliminated? Does that mean that the American team is out or do they go with three scores from people who qualified? Lots of good rides from Brazil, Switzerland and France today along with countries already mentioned. Right now it looks like a very tight race for team medals.

I was wondering the same too ^^.
How many riders are needed for a team, and if they team is out, do the rest that moved on get to ride as individuals?

Doesn't the lowest score from a team of four usually get dropped? That means that the US team can still compete but all their scores will have to count.

Today was just the qualifiers for the individual round. Everyone will ride for their team - whether they got eliminated or not.

Not to mention that she called it a "Table A Speed" throughout the entire broadcast -- and it wasn't. Even when the scoreboards came up and clearly were not scoring it as a speed, she continued to call it a speed class.

It annoys me how she's coining random words as "equestrian terms" and Brian keeps asking what she means by "bogey fence" or "range" :S. she isn't as articulate as Beth IMO or as entertaining as Mac... Sigh.

Sigh. I noticed that too. The guy with her kept asking her to clarify her terms for the viewers but she sill kept repeating the same old terms. He'd remind her that some viewers might just be joining because it was early in the morning. I think he was hinting that she stop using those terms, but she didn't get it and they kept on coming.

I actually think Nancy does a very nice job --- and I think she is very versatile to be able to switch from "play by play" (in Eventing/ Dressage) and "colour commentator" (in show jumping). I don't think the terms she has been using are that hard to grasp: I'm sure the average non-equestrian who happens to be watching can easily follow what is being said (definitely not rocket science).
We are so lucky to be able to watch all of the event.

phr, There's no difference between "play by play" & "color commentary"!!! Nancy is awful. The only person worse is Jim van Horn. Thank God We don't have to listen to him drone on!!!

Agreed! Just referring to the issues of two weeks ago - to me DCDM seemed quite relaxed, none of the tension of Spruce Meadows - so somehow, they've managed to work out the issues in a very short time. And judging by the look on Eric's face, he was more than a little relieved!
